No not the former Aussie Cricket captain. Steve Smith or as some of you may know him the Almanac, the Russian Rocket or Obi Wan is moving to Adelaide. Steve has been a part of Berwick Dodgers and Springvale Lions Baseball clubs for the last 5+ years, playing in several premiership winning teams and has been a committee member of Berwick for several years.
For those of you that have played with or against, or simply met Steve through club ball or his work with the Melbourne Aces come down to the Berwick Baseball club on Saturday the 2nd of June from midday onwards. The B2 game starts at 12 and Steve will be taking the field for one of his last games for Berwick then afterwards hang around and have a chat and a drink whilst more baseball is played. For those that play that day we will be staying afterwards so come after your games are done.
It would be good to see a few familiar faces down even for a few minutes to catch up before Steve takes the big step of moving interstate.
The Berwick Dodgers Baseball Club are pleased to announce the appointment of long time Berwick Dodger John O’Conner as the new club coach for the forthcoming Winter season. JJ O’Connor has been a big part of the club for many years working his way through the junior ranks and developing into a very accomplished senior player who has been one of the stand out players in the DBA A grade competition over the last few years. He is very keen to continue the development of the young player base at the club and build on the success of the last couple of seasons.
He will be assisted by a couple of experienced long time DBA stalwarts in Ian Madden and Mick Wearne.
Returning as A2 coach will be the ever popular and well respected Ben Rosewall who continues to impress and will no doubt be looking to build on the efforts and success of last year.
The club would like to also thank Dan Betreen for his fine contribution the last few seasons and are happy that he will be back with the Dodgers this year playing and helping out where possible.
