Round 10.

A1 - Berwick 21 def. Mornington 2.

The Dodgers continued there good recent form against an undermanned Pirates line up featuring several younger players, Rob Hogan got the start and gave up just 2 runs through his 5 innings and Mick Wearne closed it out over the last 2 innings, a welcome return to form from Luke Farrelly with 4 hits and 3 each to Matt Greene, Scott Wearne and Glen Mascoll, 2 for Rob Hogan and Lucas Price and 1 to Peter Higgins and Mick Wearne

A2 - Berwick 8 def. Mornington 3.

Alex DaSilva got his first start of the year and aquitted himself very well through 3 innings, Dan Betreen threw 1 innings maintaining his zero era and Sean Howe finished it off, the hits were evenly spread and Craig Durdin made his first appearance for the year.

A3 - Berwick 8 drew with Mornington 8.

On a cold but pleasant day down at Mornington where we drew with them 8-8. In my 35 years of baseball, I have never seen something as funny as Quinny, watching the A4 game, throwing a bat skyward at a foul ball, hitting it, and preventing it from going miles and having to retrieve it. I know that you have a great eye in the batting box, Quinny, but that was an amazing shot. About the game, I started the game, and thought we did fairly well in the field keeping Mornington to 8 runs. Gibbo Jnr is impressing more and more each week catching behind the dish, picking off 2 attempts stealing to 2nd base and young Andrew Hemmes getting a crucial hit into left field driving in 3 RBI's. In the batting department, we got 8 hits for the game, with singles going to Dick, Andrew H, Brad, Bull, Tooly, Gibbo Snr and the coach got 2.

A4 - Berwick 14 def. Mornington 3.

With an aggressive hitting mindset we started brightly with a 4 run first inning, retiring the Pirates starter in the process. Our infielding was perfect and Mornington struggled to get into the game. Terry Van Iersel was on fire returning to the catching position and backed it up with 4 hits from 4 at bats scoring 3 runs, with Peter “PK” Kimber and “Beefa” Lees adding 5 runs between them. But it was Brian Lees dominance on the hill that was clearly the difference on the day leading to a final scoreline of Berwick 14, Mornington 3. Once again all players contributed in a very solid team performance. Next week we take on in-form Dandenong Gold at home.

Till then, see you on the diamond.

Under 16 - Berwick 15 def. Boneo 2.

The boys travelled to Rosebud today to take on Boneo and came away with a 15-2 win. Andrew Hemmes started the game and after a shaky start, got his eye in and stopped the Boneo bats, striking out 4 batters in 2 innings. A change in pitching saw Adam Silva come in and 10 Boneo batters had no answer for 21/2 innings. The boys faced some wayward pitching with hits going to Andrew Hemmes and Sam Beasley with 2, and singles going to Ryan Shane, Malachite O'Halloran, Anthony Mether, Lucas Lydall and Craig Durdin.

Under 14 - Berwick 14 def. Carrum Downs 7.

Well, what an interesting game, with the scorer sitting with all her friends, and the gallery all on top of the hill, we were first up to bat with a few hit from Jake Bone hitting a 2 base hit again with the new bat, he is on fire, and a hit from Samuel Drane, with us scoring 3 runs. Then it was our turn to field, Ethan Laurie pitching first giving up 4 runs, bringing in Daniel Wood to shut them down, which he did with the last 2 strike outs for the inning. Our next batting innings, with hits from, Dean McCort, Mitchell Kmet, another 2 base hit from Jake Bone, a hit from Jesse Gavin and a 2 base hit from Daniel Wood, giving Berwick 7 runs. Daniel Wood still pitching with a strike out first up, with a few more batters, then 2 more strike outs to shut them down with 0 runs fort he innings. Our last batting innings with hits from Samuel Drane, Hayden Thomas, Matthew Chilcott, Daniel Durdin and a 2 base hit from Dean McCort, giving us 4 more runs. Then it was our last fielding innings, with Daniel Wood still pitching with a couple of walks and 1 out, it was time for Matthew Chilcott to end the game, with Carrum Downs scoring another 3 runs, the game ended on a strike out from Matthew Chilcott. Leaving Berwick Dodgers with another win 14-7. Great game from all the boys with a few boys in different positions.  It was a great win.

Next game for us is against Mornington, being played at Berwick.

Under 12 - Berwick 11 def. Dandenong 9.

With a tough game against Dandenong Angels, the 2nd side on the ladder, the young Dodgers stood up to the challenge playing on their unbeaten turf on the main diamond. A sharp warm up seemed for a sense of revenge to the Angels after being beaten 22-2 in the first round. Top of the 1st and Angels came out firing with some agressive batting, scoring 3 runs. Bottom of the 1st and the Dodgers had no reply.Top of the 2nd and Pitcher Lachlan Beasley struck three batters out in a solid finish to the inning. Bottom 2nd and Dodgers took advantage of Angels inaccuracy at the plate with 8 walks and a single by catcher Brad Kmet to lead the game 7-3. Top of the 3rd and Lachy walked the first batter. An amazing diving catch by the gun pitcher saw a double play that had to be seen to be believed with the runner at 1st base running to 3rd base,  then being chased by the ball being thrown to every base back to first where he was eventually called out!! A strikeout by Lachy to finish the inning and his time on the hill of thrills saw the Dodgers still up 7-3. Bottom of the 3rd the Dodgers scored another 4 runs to lead 11-4. Top 4th, Brad Kmet came in to close the game out knowing Angels were going to come out swinging hard. A 6 run inning by the Angels saw Dodgers hold on to win 11-9 in a very good game showing how much they have improved during the year! Well done Lachy Beasley pitching, Brad Kmet 1 hit, Liam Madden at 2nd base, Ryan Kirby fly ball. Well done and have a great school holidays!

P.S. Dodgers are now fourth on the ladder!
