Round 12.

A1 - Berwick 5 drew with Dandenong 5.

What a stupid man Jeeba is. Having been told that Earl was unavailable for this week, he forgets to remember, so the 1’s take to the field with a passenger at left field.

A very tight tussle ensued with tight tense baseball throughout.

Game was called after completion of the 9 th inning, due to bad light, with the scores locked at 5-5.

Thanks to Scott Simpson, Chilly and Jessie for making themselves available to come into the game.

A2 - Berwick 7 def. Dandenong 5.

A tough tight tussle is guaranteed when the ladder leading Angels come to play, and with a few regular starters missing from the Dodger line up, the task was never going to be easy.

Dykstra started on the hill throwing to Crackers. We knew that the Angels hitters would come out swinging but these 2 guys, who are starting to become a formidable team, were able to limit the opportunities during the early innings. The Dodger hitting was also held in check during this time.

An error in the infield, a couple of misjudged fly balls and a missed back hand pick up attempt in the top of the third inning, proved costly with 4 Angels crossing the plate. In the bottom of the inning we saw a hit to Jack, Quinstar got drilled, and consecutive hits to Shaun and Bull, Double walks and Dykstra sac bunt. Jessie gives up a sac fly, Dan “The Man” Betreen gets a hit and the game is all tied up at 4-4.

The bottom of the next inning was all under control with 2 Angels out when the brain explosion of all time occurs allowing another Angel to cross the plate. Dodgers are unable to reply on this occasion.

It was not until the bottom of the 7 th when Bull gets a free pass, Double gets a hit, Dykstra hits and scores Bull, The Man line drive up the middle to score 2. Dodgers lead and win 7-5.

A great team effort with multiple hits to Jack and The Man, singles to everyone else. Good selective hitting saw multiple walks to Bull and Shaun with Double, Dykstra and Crackers getting 1 free pass each.

Dykstra pitched all 8 inning giving up 12 hits for 5 runs with 8 strike outs. Nice work Dykstra.

Next week it’s down the highway to take on Mornington.

See you on the Diamond

A3 - Berwick 16 def. Dandenong 0.

The boys travelled to the Dandy-Dome and faced an under-manned Dandenong side and we came away with a resounding 16-0 win. Sean Howe continued his great form on the mound not allowing any runs in 6 innings and then pitching debutante, Ryan Shane, came on in the 7th innings to finish the game. In the batting department, the team had 16 hits for the game with Lucas and Rowser leading the way with 3 hits each, Mark and Ryan with 2 including 3 RBI's to Ryan. Singles going to Cam B, Dick, Andy, Cam Mc, Sean and HIlly. By the way Hilly, the scorebook says you only got 1 stolen base today. The stolen base race between you and Cam B, officially stands at, Hilly 2 - Cam B 0.

Oh, by the way, I'm still waiting for your 500 word report from last week Hilly.

Shae, thanks for playing with us over the past weeks and hoping you have a great time in Venezuela. From all of the boys.

A4 - Berwick 1 lost to Dandenong 12.

In wintery conditions at Kidd Rd Dandenong for the clash with the top of the table Angels we knew we would have to play at our very best to stay with the league benchmark. We soon found that to be far beyond our capabilities. Beefa toiled manfully in the blustery conditions, but it wasn’t long before the Angels started rotating the runner on hits and errors. With the bat we managed only 4 hits which was nowhere enough to match it with the big guns. Our defence leaked errors and Dandenong cruised to an easy victory. Let us hope that we can be a more competitive unit next week at home to Mornington.

Till then – see you on the diamond.

Under 16 - Berwick 8 def. Cheltenham White 3.

After a couple of weeks break, the boys were keen to get out there and play again, winning 8-3. Jesse Gavin had a great game pitching the whole game, striking out 6 of their bats and contributing with 3 hits also. Lachy, Craig and Chilly each had 2 hits including a home run from Chilly. Daniel Wood contributed to the scoreboard, not getting a safe hit, but hitting in 3 R.B.I's.

Under 14 - Berwick 4 def. Mornington 3.

It was another wet morning for the Dodgers, even wetter and soggier on the back diamond as u16’s were on the main. With a shortened left field and the top two teams hitting it out it was going to be a tough game.

Top of the 1 st and Pirates score one run of an Alex Clark wild pitch, his first run scored against him for the season. Good defence displayed by Steve Hughes at first base.

Bottom 1 st Oliver Dunn leads off in the absence of Mat McLardy, Dunny walks and steals second and third with his wheels. Vince Liberati struckout in his first game for the Dodgers this season but looked promising. Lachy Beasley then doubled and squared the game up 1 all. Lachlan then scored after Clarky got a dropped third strike. Dodgers go up 2-1.

Top 2 nd Clarky struggles a little with 3 walks and two strikeouts, another fly ball taken by Stevo, Dodgers escape a jam.

Bottom 2 nd and Steve Hughes hits a hard ball to get on, Brad Kmet then hits in the gap in shortstop. Will Day then hit up third base line for a hit. Bases loaded with none out, well done bottom half, Nick Struckout in the nine hole then Dunny walked, Dodgers end inning up 3-1.

Top 3 rd and meat of the Pirates order up, Clarky strikes out the no.2 hitter, Lachy then covers the hole at shortstop showing great range and gets the out, Clarky then works hard against no.4 hitter and gets a groundout back to himself.

Bottom 3 rd and Dodgers get shut out in 3 hitters.

Top 4 th and Dunny was given the relief job to shut down Pirates, first hitter got on with a swinging bunt, runner stole second and got to third. Infield up and batter hit a chinker to Clarky at second which just feel short of a catch, got the out at 1 st. Score is 3-2. Dunny struckout next hitter and Lachy made a running backhand catch into centre field to end the inning.

Bottom 4 th and Dodgers bottom order ground out but hitting the ball hard which was great to see.

Top 5 th with a one run lead and the 9,10, 1 hitters up in the line up. Dunny struckout the first two hitters and bought the lead off up. Dunny was 0-2 and swinging well, so I called a low changeup, Changeup thrown and sat up, 0-2 hit to right field and Will Day almost threw the runner out, hesitating as to throw the ball away. Runner then scored with two out on a wild pitch, score is tied up 3 all.

Bottom 5 th and 6 minutes to go, Dodgers were up 1,2,3 in a thriller. Oliver Dunn lead off and walked, Vince Liberati listened to instructions and showed fake bunt as Dunny stole, Vince then hit to shortstop as Dunny moved to third base with 1 out. Well done Vince. Infield up and Lachy Beasley up to bat, he was trying so hard for contact and so eager to win the game he got himself on two strikes, he then hit a ground ball to left side of pitcher, pitcher dove and fielded ball, Dunn scored and Dodgers up 4-3, Lachy out at first with a great game by the young shortstop. Clarky then struckout ending his day with the KLAN 0 for 3 KKK, his first strikeout this season also!!

Wow what a game, well done all players in an intense game.

Under 12 - Berwick 12 def. Pakenham 1.

What a cold windy day it was at Pakenham.  With a few kids away with their older brothers this week, we were down to the bare 9.  But they played a great game.  With a few kids getting some great hits this week.Again Rydge Hogan picking up 3 hits which included a triple, and 2 singles.  Other hits went to Marchy, Richo, Noah and James.  With a total score of 12 runs for the game.
Richo was a starting pitcher this week with only allowing them to score 1 run.  Great catching by Rydge this week also.
Fantastic game guys.
So a win for us 12 to 1.

Special mention to Rydge playing an outstanding game again.  He has been very consistent with safe hits every week and fantastic pitching and catching.Well done Rydge.
Also well done to Mel for scoring this week with Gill being away.
