Round 13.

A1 - Berwick 7 def. Bonbeach 3.

After seeing the strong winds and the big hits in the early game we were hoping it would continue. Heading into the 2nd inns we were down 1-0 and Ferret took full advantage of the conditions hitting a solo home run to tie up the ball game. Scoring 4 more runs in the next 3 innings we went into the 6 th with a 5-1 lead. The Bluejays were unsettled with which pitcher would stop the Dodgers by making 3 changes in the last 4 inns and allowing us add 2 more runs. Once again Scotty was our strength on the mound and this week we worked as a team both on the field and in the batters box. Best hitters were all 9 players, JJ & Quinny 3, Scotty, Ferret & Richo 2, Bonas, Cosmo, Higgo & Sean 1.

A2 - Berwick 6 drew with Bonbeach 6.

Numbers were down this week so we had to make the call and get some extra players. The decision was easy considering over the past 4 weeks we could only manage 12 hits so Bull and Cammo made the trip to Bonbeach and if needed it was going to be a first with a mother/son combo of Gill and Jesse Gavin, which didn't take as long as thought for this to become a reality. In a tight game all day with the lead changing numerous times but going into the 5 th we were down 6-4, wanting to prove to the selectors that they chose the right people, Bull came up with a solo home run, followed by our pitcher Sean not wanting to be out shone came up with a back to back solo home run to tie up the game 6 all. Going into the bottom of the last innings the Dodgers were up 7-6, Sean managed to throw his 7 th strike out to the lead off hitter and we thought it was nearly over, however Bonbeach rallied and had the next two hitters in scoring position before time and game was called and the score reverted back. Best hitters Tim 3, Bull, Sean & Cammo 2 and Benny 1.

A3 - Berwick 21 def. Dingley Blue 18.

After a shaky start, we consolidated and came away with a hard fought 21-18 win. Some sensational hitting from the team with 26 hits for the game. Mark Gibbens had a day out with 5 hits, 4 RBI's and scoring 6 runs. Other hits going to Woody and Tooly with 4 hits each, Rowan, Dick and the coach with 3, young Gibbo with 2 and singles to Campbell and Terry who filled in for us, thanks Terry. In the pitching, Chilly started the game and was replaced by Rowan who did well for 3 innings and then the coach came on to finish the game.

A4 - Berwick 7 def. Dingley Blue 4.

We hosted Dingley Blue at Cyril on a dry but blustery diamond. Simone Wearne took to the hill and took control in the early innings. Rookie Glenn De Jong was on fire at third and single handedly shut down Dingley in the 2 nd dig. With the Dingley pitcher throwing a tight zone we continued to hit but stranded many runners throughout the course of the game. Solid hitting from Brian “Beefa” Lees (3 from 4) backed by PK, Rookie De Jong and Johnno with 2 a piece saw us ease out to what became the final margin of Berwick 7 – Dingley 4. A better overall batting performance which we can hopefully carry to Bonbeach next week.

Till then – see you on the diamond.

Roger Greene.

Womens - Berwick 2 lost to Melbourne Uni 13.

Playing against the top team Melbourne Uni this week at home was a tough game but we played very well.  The Dodgers have really improved and they should be very proud of their game on Sunday, i think we definitely made a statement that we are not going to be an easy team to beat. With being the home team we started fielding, with our lead off pitcher being Deb, always throwing strikes and her team backing her up, we had 3 up 3 down.  Out to bat, with Dodgers scoring 1 run so we had the lead, 1 to 0. Some fantastic fielding by the outfielders this week, with a catch from Jess, Kristol, Gill.  Catches from Cas, Simone.  Again some fantastic work on 1st base from Leanne Shane. Some great hits from Jess hitting a 2 base hit, Mel, Leanne, Gill, Simone, Cas, Kelly, Kristol, some patients at the plate for Jolene getting a few walks. Then replacing Leanne at 1st base was Olga, not knowing what to do at all but stop the ball and touch her base and that she did in style.  The ball was hit down the 1st base line and Olga just dives for the ball to stop it, then realising she can still get the out, crawls her way to the 1st base and touches it with her hand getting the out.  It was the play of the day.  That is what baseball is all about.  Well done Olga you are fantastic!!!! Was a great game by every one in the team and they should be really proud of themselves. We lost 13 to 2 but it was no disgrace. Thank you to all the supporters that came down and watched us play, we really do appreciate it, and we hope you enjoyed the game.

Next week we are off to Moorabbin at 3.00pm. Hope to see you all there.

Under 16 - Berwick 1 lost to Dingley Blue 2.

A very tight defensive game saw the boys go down to Dingley 2-1. Jesse Gavin started the game and pitched for 4 innings picked up 4 strike-outs and Anthony Mether finishing the game. In the batting, the boys could only scrape up 3 hits for the game with singles going to Craig B, Tim and Turtle.
