Round 14.

A1 - Berwick 2 lost to Frankston 6.

A2 - Berwick 5 lost to Frankston 10.

A3 - Berwick 7 lost to Frankston 11.

The A3 team travelled to Frankston to play for a position in the final four but came up short, losing 11-7. A great batting performance by Craig O'Toole with 3 hits, including a home run to centre-right and hitting in for R.B.I.'s. Other hits went to Team Gibbo and the coach with 3 hits each, Shae with 2 and singles to Quinny, Bull and brad.

A4 - Berwick 4 lost to Frankston 20.

After the drubbing of the previous Sunday against Dandy Blue, we travelled to Frankston to tackle the ladder leaders. With only 3 hits in the round 13 game The team needed to adopt an aggressive attitude with the bat, but the Tomatoes had the answers defensively. With the exception of TV (2 Hits) and Beefa Lees (3 hits) Our offence was almost non-existant. After holding a 2 – 1 lead in the second, Frankston took hold of our starter Simone Wearne and held a 14 – 3 lead into the 5 th . Cam Smith then took to the hill and blew off 4 odd years of rust and slowed the procession of Tomato runs in a solid comeback performance. A tumbling fly in shallow rightfield to Brian Lees topped off a great game for Beefa. The rest was just a lamentable performance. This just underlines how far we must improve to challenge at the business end of the season. Final score when umpire Daryl Dicker called mercy after 7 was Frankston 20 – Berwick 5. We regroup next week at Farm Rd. against the Rustlers.

Till then – see you on the diamond.

Under 16 - Berwick 0 lost to Chetenham White 5.

The boys took on league leaders Cheltenham White but unfortuneately losing 5-0.The Berwick bats were very quite with only the one hit for the game came from Craig Durdin. Adam Silva started the game and did well with 8 strike-outs. The last 1 1/2 innings were pitched by Craig Barnett with Cheltenham scoring just the 1 unearned run.

Under 14 - Berwick 8 def. Cheltenham White 3.

Off to Chilly Cheltenham this week to play against Cheltenham White, with being first up to bat saw us with a hit from David Mulhall(welcome back from an injury), and a 2 base hit from Matthew Chilcott and Jesse Gavin and a couple of walks to several players and alot of aggressive base stealing, seeing us start with 6 runs. Lead off pitcher was Matthew Chilcott, continuing with great form, with their first 4 batters not scoring. Our next at bat was a bit different with a hit straight to short stop from Chris Denny who then threw it to first base to get the first out, then some good pitching from Cheltenham to get the next 2 batters out also. Chilly's next pitching dig with only having to pitch to 3 batters, with some great fielding by his team, again shutting them down with 0 runs. Back to the top of the order with Ethan Laurie getting is 2nd walk for the game and David Mulhall also getting a walk, Cheltenham's pitcher feeling a bit tired giving us another run with a wild pitch a hit from Chilly getting another RBI, but going out himself, with a fly ball caught from Daniel Wood and Jesse caught stealing giving our 3rd out, but scoring us 2 runs bringing our total to 8. Again Chilly on fire with his pitching only pitching to 3 batters again with the first 2 strike outs and a pick up from Dean McCort at short stop to throw out the batter running to 1st base, leaving Chilly with a total of 36 pitches in 3 innings, 11 balls and 25 strikes, only pitching to 10 batters and a 0 hit game.  Well done Chilly awesome game again. With a change of pitcher for Cheltenham our next at bat left us with 0 runs scored. Jesse Gavin up to pitch next, starting off a bit shaky but then sorted him self out and with leaving 3 on base and striking out 3 batters. Our next 4 batters tried very hard to get the ball into play but some good fielding from Cheltenham left us with 0 runs again. Jesse still a bit shaky on the mound giving up a few walks, then some good batting from Cheltenham scoring 3 runs, but then shut them down with caught stealing, a great throw from Paul Klimisch from Right field to short stop getting the 2nd out and to finish was a strike out from Jesse. But leaving Cheltenham with 3 runs scored. 1 last bat for us, not that it would have counted due to time. But their pitcher came out with 3 strike outs anyway, calling time and game. Samuel Drane being on the bench due to an injury hopefully back next week. So final score with yet another great win from Berwick Dodgers 8 to 3.  Awesome game by all the team again.  Last game before the finals will bring us home against Frankston, so hope to see you there.

Under 12 - Berwick 14 def. Dingley 7.

The young Dodgers had another great win against Dingley on the weekend. A promising Dodgers side ran all over Dingley in the best performance of the year. A 7 run first dig from just nine batters showed how much the kids have improved in their batting skills and smarts. A first pitch of the game single to young gun Vince Liberati followed by a BB from Tyler Cattle. Singles from Brad Kmet, Lachlan Beasley and Ryan Kirby and some agressive base running gave the Dodgers a lead of 7. Bottom of the first and Dingley scoring 4 unearned runs made the Dodgers a little shaky. Top of the 2nd, the Dodgers scored 2 runs with a walk to Jess Bertram and another single through 2nd base by Brad Kmet. Bottom of the 2nd and starter Lachlan Beasley gave up no runs with 2 strikeouts and a great throw from catcher Brad Kmet to put out the runner at 2nd. Top of the 3rd, the Dodgers scored 4 runs with some smart batting and a fantastic hit by Nathan Price through shortstop. Bottom of the 3rd Dingley scored 1 run. Another great assist from Brad Kmet to 3rd baseman Rydge Hogan to make the put out. Dodgers leading 13-5. Top of the 4th, the Dodgers scored 1 run with a walk and wild pitch to Brad Kmet. Bottom of the 4th saw Brad Kmet step on the hill. With a runner at 3rd base and 1 out a wild pitch by Brad saw the runner try to score at home. Ryan Kirby gathered the ball and threw the out at home with a tag by Brad Kmet. However Brad injured his hand in the collison and was forced from the ground. A cold shortstop Tyler Cattle stepped up to the plate yet again. After a shaky start he struckout the last batter of the game. Dodgers had another bat, but was irrelevant.
Dodgers won 14-7 in a great game. Great game Brad Kmet with 2 hits and scoring three runs, and throwing 3 outs. Well pitched Lachlan Beasley with 1 hit. Singles to Ryan Kirby, Vince Liberati, Nathan Price and Rydge Hogan.

Bring on the finals!

Dan
