Round 16.

A1 - Berwick 1 lost to Cheltenham Blue 3.

An encouraging performance against the 2nd placed Rustlers saw us fall just short in a tight game, Rob Hogan again did a great job throwing 7 innings and hitting in our only run, other hitters were Matt Pallant with 2 and Ben Bartlett 1.  Unfortunately the loss puts the team into a must win encounter with Dingley this weekend where the winner will secure a finals berth and the loser will most likely miss out

A2 - Berwick 4 lost to Cheltenham Blue 9.

Once again a little undermanned the reserves struggled to score runs early and despite fighting back to tie up the game in the last were beaten by time and now face a must win game this weekend to secure a finals berth, after some great results earlier in the year the team has just dropped away a little , but we should be able to regroup this week and get over Dingley to ensure some finals action

A3 - Berwick 20 def. Cheltenham Blue 2.

We played a very important game today to get above the team we are fighting against to get in the finals and came away with a very resounding 20 - 2 win. Young Sean Howe pitched a very controlled game only allowing the 1 earned run with 5 strike-outs. The Berwick bats came alive, especially with the finals just around the corner, with 18 hits for the game. Brad, Bull, Tooly and the coach with 3 hits each, Sean Howe 2 & singles to Shae, Quinny, Dick and Andrew Hemmes. With power hitting like this, it is going to be tough for Team Gibbo to get a game next week, only joking.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shae for playing with us and wish her the very best of luck in the upcoming womens world cup. Its not going to be as good as playing with the A3 team, but good luck anyway.

A4 - Berwick 13 def. Dandenong Blue 9.

We hosted a determined Dandenong Blue outfit in a battle for fourth spot on Saturday. Simone Wearne started and once again took control from the first pitch, backed up I might add by a very solid infielding performance. I stressed an aggressive hitting and baserunning attitude and the team followed suit. With 3 hits to “Roy Boy”Huke and 2 to TV, Willy Carpenter and Marty Kmed we kept the runs ticking over with 14 stolen bases (3 each to Willy, Roy boy and Simone) we eased out to a 10/ 4 lead after 4 digs. Simone conned me into 1 more inning but the Blues started to fire up so we turned to Cam Smith and tried to control the game to protect our outfield. Dandenong refused to lie down and drew up to trail by 1 run after 5 innings. We once again dug in to bat and produced another 2 runs to give us some breathing space to defend. Cam and an injured TV did the job admirably shutting down the blues and letting us add a further run before time was called. Final score Berwick 13 Dandenong Blue 9. This win now secures us in the top 4 for finals action once again. This week we take on Dingley in another top 4 tussle.

Till then – see you on the diamond.

Under 16 - Berwick (No games)

Under 14 - Berwick 9 def. Dingley 1.

Yippee.....We made it.  We are on our way to the Grand Final.  First up to pitch was Matthew Chilcott, continuing with his out standing pitching, with their first batter hitting the ball straight to Samuel Drane on first base just having to touch his bag to make the first out, next batter getting a walk to first base, then the next batter hitting it straight to Jesse Gavin playing short stop, touching the 2nd base to get the 2nd out almost getting the double play, leaving a runner on first base, Matthew Chilcott with some great watching seeing him trying to steal, making pick off throw to Jesse, getting the 3rd out.  Great start already. Lead off hitter was Ethan Laurie, with getting a walk to 1st base, stealing to 2nd and on a wild throw from their catcher, getting him to 3rd base, David Mulhall getting caught by the 3rd baseman, Matthew with a strike out.  Ethan then came home on a wild pitch giving us our first run.  Jesse Gavin up to bat next hitting a bomb over the cones, giving him another home run, bringing his total to 6 home runs this season. Next batter was then struck out making our 3rd out, but having 2 runs scored. Chilly up to pitch again, with striking out the 1st batter, next batter hitting the ball straight to Samuel Drane making the 2nd out.  Another strike out from Chilly, leaving them with no runs scored again. Jake Bone up to bat, hitting the ball straight to the 1st baseman, making him the first out, Sam Drane, getting hit by the ball, getting on 1st base, then a steal to 2nd base, a hit from Daniel Durdin(Double D), but going out at first base making him 2nd out, but moved the runner to 3rd base, a walk to Dean McCort and Sam scoring on a throw over to 2nd base from the catcher. Hayden with some great swinging of the bat, but unlucky with a strike out, making our 3rd out, but Dodgers scoring another run. Chilly's last inning to pitch, with the first batter getting struck out, then a walk to the next batter, another strike out making 2 out, a hit from their next batter scoring them an unearned run.  But again great watching from Chilly, seeing them attempt to steal, throwing the ball to Jesse getting them out on the steal, making them 3 out, but scoring 1 run.  Making the score 3 to 1, Dodgers way. Our next 3 batters trying very hard but not so lucky, giving us 3 outs. Our next pitcher for the game was Jesse Gavin, with walking the first batter, but now he was serious with a great stop from Chilly, now playing short stop, throwing him out at first base, making the first out. Then the next 2 batters left at the plate with strike outs. Still only on 1 run. Up to bat was Mitchell Kmet, with a walk to first base, a hit from David Mulhall and Chilly, but Mitchell got put out on 3rd base, making the first out, and 2 strike outs, leaving 2 runners on base. Jesse's back in to pitch with the first batter getting hit with the ball, getting him to first base, next 2 batters striking out, and the runner that was on base, went out trying to steal. Up to bat was Daniel Wood, with a nice hit to left field, then hits from Jake Bone and Sam Drane, scoring us 4 runs, then with alot of walks and wild pitches, we scored another 2 runs.  Leaving us with a total of 9 runs for the game. Bringing the game to Time and Game.  Giving us our win 9 to 1, to go straight to the Grand Final.

Wishing you all the best of luck boys, you have played as a team all year and it has payed off. Congratulations and GOOD LUCK. Thank you to all the people that come to support the boys on Saturday also.

Under 12 - Berwick

The u12's had a very tough task ahead of them facing Cheltenham Blue in the top of the table clash at Farm rd on saturday. We came out firing with some aggressive but smart batting by the Dodgers which put pressure on the all star side. A tense first dig, but the Dodgers did not score. Bottom of the first and Lachlan Beasley tried hard to get past the Rustlers bats but 4 runs were scored. Top of the 2nd and Dodgers left a man on 3rd to score no runs. bottom of the 2nd and Rustlers score another 4 runs, great catches by Vince Liberati at CF, and Liam Madden at 2nd base. Dodgers down 8-0.Top of the 3rd and Dodgers score 3 runs with some wild pitching from Cheltenham. Dodgers still down 8-3. Bottom of the 3rd and Rustlers score 2 runs. Dodgers down 10-3. Top of the 4th with Dodgers not scoring. End score was a loss to Cheltenham Blue 15-3. A dissapointing result, but happy to have a shot with the double chance in play. Dodgers play Mornington Gold this saturday at Cheltenham 8 45 start.

Please come down and show your support.
Very big game to get in to the Grand Final.

Dan
