Round 17.

A1 - Berwick

A2 - Berwick

A3 - Berwick

With a finals berth out of our reach, we took on Cheltenham and had heaps of fun but lost 17-4. Our gun leftie started the game, and with cheltenham scoring 8 runs in the first innings, 6 unearned, threw very well for 5 innings. Then rowan relieved and kept Cheltenham scoreless for the remaining 2 innings. In the batting, we mixed up the line-up with Cam batting the 3 spot and picking up 2 safe hits. Gibbo Jnr. and Dick also got 2 hits each with singles going to Ash, Rowan and the coach. Thanks to Ash Crosby and Paul Chinnock for filling in for us this week.

A4 - Berwick 9 def. Cheltenham 3.

With a nervous apprehension we marked up the main diamond at Cyril in preparation to face off against the ladder leading Cheltenham . We needed a strong showing heading into the finals and with an almost full list we prepared for the fray. “Shunter” took to the hill and assumed control almost immediately seeing off the “Rustlers” top order. Our hitting has been flat of recent times but we rose to the occasion and managed to pinch a run from heads up base running from our lead off “Lil Mick” Leembruggen. We maintained control into the second innings and blew the game open with a seven run onslaught, with some solid hitting right through the line up, to assume total control of proceedings. Our defensive effort lead by Roy “the natural” Huke was rivalling our best for the season to date as the “Rustlers” worked hard to get back into the game, Shunter was rested with a 9 -3 lead. “Beefa” Lees then steered us home as the Cheltenham hitters fired back, but a clutch fly from Craig Taylor in right, as well as a great back hand put out from “Bulldog” Price at crucial times allowed us to coast in to inflict the Rustlers first defeat Berwick 9 Cheltenham3. I praised all 13 players who took part for their determination and contribution to a very significant win, as we continue to gain momentum when we head to Dingley next Saturday in a tussle for second spot. Special thanks to a great club effort from Paul “Porno” Chinnock, backing up as an extra in the A3's with an outstanding performance after 3 innings in rightfield. Many thanks Pauly much appreciated.

Onward to Dingley. Till then – see you on the diamond.

Womens - Berwick 16 def. Sandringham 8.

What a cold winters day it was today.  Played Sandringham at their ground, think we were the only ones that got a game in today. Hot on the bats this week, with Kristol, Jolene, Olga(Flaps), Leanne, Gill and Jess. All getting a few nice hits. Had a great stolen base from Deb this week. Pitching this week was Jess  who did a great job, only hitting a few batters.  Catching was Kristol, as always doing a fantastic job behind the plate. Leanne on first base, Olga at 2nd, Cas at 3rd, Gill at short stop, Deb, left field, Jolene at centre and Gabby at right field, with no one on the bench. Great game by the whole team this week, we all hit well this week, we just need to continue it in every game and we will be a team to look out for.  Great fielding this week by all the girls, with getting help by the whole team as to where to make the throws and plays, we are all working well together.  Keep it up ladies!!  Thanks to Hoges this week for coaching us this week.  You helped us all a lot today so BIG thank you. Walking away with a win today 16 to 8.  Putting us safely in the 4, so we will definitely be in finals.  We have Melb Uni next week, not sure what time...keep checking web site for the time.
