After a great start to the year the Dodgers came crashing back to earth with a lacklustre effort against the competition pacesetters, once again some wayward pitching with the Dodgers issuing a staggering 13 free passes coupled with 10 hits kept the defence under immense pressure and allowed the Bluejays to score runs freely. The Dodgers did have some chances but left 9 on base throughout the day and never seriosly threatened. Best Hitters for the Dodgers were Scott Wearne and Luke Farrelley with 2 and Alex Da Silva and Mick Wearne with 1
A2 - Berwick 5 lost to Bonbeach 12.
The Dodgers were fielding their strongest reserves lineup for many years and against a Bluejays team yet to record a win for the season, but nothing is certain in baseball and the Dodgers never really got into the game, once again the Dodgers had trouble throwing strikes allowing 15 walks in just 5 innings of baseball, and although out hitting the Bluejays 4 to 3 never got close. Best with the bat were Ben Bartlett, Matt Greene, Brad Mascoll and Sam Beasley with 1 each
A3 - Berwick 9 lost to Cheltenham 16.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the boys took on the undefeated league leaders and with a good team effort, we were unable to come up with the goods, losing 16-9. A mammoth performance from Andrew Peulen on the hill and with basically errorless fielding , saw the team only 3 runs down going into the ninth innings. Unfortuneately, the Cheltenham bats scored 6 runs in the last to put the game out of our reach. In the batting, RIchard Gyton had a day out with 4 hits with 4 R.B.I's and Tooly with 3 hits and scoring 3 runs. Other hits went to the coach with 2 and singles to Bull, Cam and the R.B.I. master, Rene. Team Peulen R.B.I count, Master 5, Apprentice 0.
A4 - Berwick 3 lost to Cheltenham 13.
In perfect conditions we hosted a tardy Rustlers who managed to stroll in just on game time. With Cheltenham sporting a big name line up Simone Wearne started proceedings well, but scattered errors from our new look defence managed to rotate the runners. We managed to hold Chelt to 2 runs in the first. Once again the pocket rockets of Mick Leembruggen and Roy Huke started at a furious pace with Li'l Mick a lead off single and Roy scoring him with a double. But the latter half of the line up failed to fire a shot with us only able to manage 1 run through 4 innings at which time we trailed by 10 runs. With an injury to Mick Leembruggen we threw Brucey Cusack in to 3 rd base which saw him turn the slowest infield put out of Ronnie Carothers in a photo finish at first (the ball actually stopped rolling before it got to the base) only to see “Bulldog” Price make the out. In the fifth both teams added 2 runs each and we threw the ball to Shayne Nyholm- Hunter and he shut down the Rustlers and wiped the grins off a few faces. The bats started fire and when time was called with 1 out we had the bases juiced. A case of too little too late as we went down to Cheltenham 13 -3. We must develop an aggressive confidence in our batting and a belief that we can match it with whatever we are up against for us to remain competitive this season. Lets see if we can take it to Dingley next Saturday.
Till then – see you on the diamond.

Womens - Berwick 0 lost to Melbourne Uni 20.
Well off to Sandringham for a 10 o'clock start, better weather conditions than last week. We played Melbourne Uni, who are a very experienced team. Cas was our lead off pitcher who pitched a great game for Berwick, but just some nice hits from Melbourne scored them some runs. There were some great stops at second base from Olga to get a few outs, a catch from Deb, a few stops from short stop Gill to get a few outs, also Jess making some nice plays for a few outs. Melbourne's pitcher was a little bit quicker this week and a few of our hitters struggled a little but over all they did a great job, with a nice hit from Cas hitting a stand up double and a few more hits through the game but to no avail. The final result was 20 to 0 with a win to Melbourne Uni, but we will do better next time when we have a bit more experience. Overall, our Berwick Women's team played very good baseball, well done to all the girls.
Next game is 10th of May @ Moorabbin at 3.00pm. Hope you can make it to cheer us on!!!
