Round 4.

A1 - Berwick 9 def. Frankston 3.

After a dissapointing loss last week, the Dodgers bounced back with a spirited performance to beat the undermanned Tomatoes for the first time in many years. An improved performance from starter Adam Bonaddio who was strong through 6 1/3 innings along with relievers JJ O'Conner and Scott Wearne kept the Frankston offence in check all day and although the Tomatoes scattered 9 hits they didnt look like scoring enough runs to compete with the Dodgers steady rather than dominating offence. Best Hitters for the Dodgers were Alex Da Silva ,Luke Farrelley and Matt Greene with 2 and Scott Wearne, Glen Mascoll and Adam Bonaddio with 1

A2 - Berwick 8 def. Frankston 1.

With some more controlled pitching backed by solid defence this week the young Dodgers held the Tomatoes throughout and continued to score runs through the later innings to run away with a confidence boosting victory against a solid Tomatoes lineup. Best Hitters were Craig Barnett, Mick Wearne and Paul Quinn with 2 and Ben Bartlett, Tim Laird , Sam Beasley and Brad Mascoll with 1

A3 - Berwick 18 def. Dingley Gold 17.

The boys travelled to Dingley and after a tight finish ending in the 10th innings and in near darkness, we came away with a hard fought 18-17 win. At the start of the ninth innings, we were one run up, trying to finish the game, but Dingley scored a run to level the game. Going into the tenth, Symbol got a walk, Tooly knocked him to second base, gave Symbol the green light to steal third and he made it. With an unbelieveable mental error, the Dingley catcher tried to pick off Tooly on first base, and with an errant throw, allowed Symbol to score putting us up by 1 run. In the pitching, the coach started the game, and couldn't find the zone and was replaced by Bull in the fourth and threw to the end of the sixth. The coach decided to give Cam "The Gun Leftie" Boucher a couple of innings and did a brilliant job for 2 1/3 innings. An under the weather Symbol then came on, and with fantastic control, finished the game. We had a good day out with the bats, slamming 20 hits for the game, including a 2 run shot from the Bull over the centre field fence. Other hits went to Brad & Symbol with 3 hits, Dick, Bull, "The gun leftie" and young Cam Atkins with 2 and singles to Gibbo jnr, the coach, Campbell, Rene, Andrew H and Tooly. Team Peulen R.B.I count, Master 5, Apprentice 2.

A4 - Berwick 7 lost to Dingley Gold 10.

We travelled to Wearne Field on Saturday with 17 players determined to give a good account of ourselves. Simone Wearne started after we had opened our account in the first and maintained the ascendancy with the full brunt of a solid defense. Unlike the previous week, we batted and ran the bases with confidence and aggression. Leading after 3rd inning, I made the first wave of changes and the game tightened up with Simone struggling to hold the Dingley hitters. Brian “Beffa” Lees made his season debut with a nice shot off field and then took to the hill in the 5 th, but Dingley had stolen the momemtum and we were playing catch up. Nice to see Marty Kmet back and Glen De Jong showed us his versatility with Paul Chinnock and Willy Carpenter picking up clutch hits. Final score when time was called Dingley Gold 10 Berwick 7.We managed to give 15 players a run in the 2 hours with only PK who scored and Brucey Cusack who base coached not taking the field. We will regroup next Saturday at home against Frankston.

Till then – see you on the diamond.
