In what was very much a last minute call to arms from Friday lunchtime onwards, I managed to contact enough players that hadn't (like myself) made prior plans for the BYE weekend. Many thanks to Quinny, Tooly (3 rd . baseman extrordiaire), and Big Brad Hughes for helping us field a team at short notice. Beefa Lees took the hill and turned in a creditable performance once again, limiting the blues to 5 runs in 5 innings and backed it up with 3 hits. A solid fielding effort kept us in touch with Dandy and with 2 out in the bottom of 4 and trailing 1-4 Brett “Hitting Machine” Antoine continued his good slugging form with a long single to rightfield to ignite a 5 run blitz, and with Quinny (3 hits) ended the day with 3 RBI's. Paul Chinnock chased the hitting machine home with one of his trademark inside the park home runs to put the issue beyond doubt. Steve Johnson claimed 2 kills at home plate, so all in all a good days work for the Dodgers. Final score Berwick 10 Dandenong Blue 5. Big thanks to young Craig Durdin for calling the game, and PK for running the team. Next match we wear black armbands for Terry Van Iersels family with the sad passing of T.V's father on Friday.
Till then- see you on the Diamond.

The U16 team took on a fairly strong Dingley line-up and unfortuneately lost 12-2. In a very competative game, against the ladders second positioned team, the score was 4-2 Dingleys way for the first 3 innings. Adam Silva and Dingleys Matt Kennedy (Cougars) went head to head, with Dingley gaining ascendancy in the last 2 innings scoring 8 runs. Adam pitched with great control, striking out 7 of Dingleys batsmen. Berwick bats were a little quiet this week, except for Adam Silva with three hits, Sam Beasley 2, Andrew Hemmes, Malachite O'Halloran & Craig Barnett 1 each.

Under 12 - Berwick 1 lost to Mornington Black 9.
An early start for the kids and parents, as Berwick Dodgers Under 12's came up against Mornington Black placed fourth on the ladder. The battle of 4th and 5th (Berwick) was always going to be a tough one. With Berwick batting first, lead off catcher Brad Kmet was walked and ran aggresively to score our first run. After the Dodgers were retired, Lachlan Beasley went to work on the hill. After one run was scored, Lachy fought back and sat down three pirate players. Dodgers were sat down comfortably in the top of the 2nd with a walk to Harrison Greaves, who was put out at the plate trying to take the lead. Bottom of the 2nd and Dodgers put Mornington away with 3 up, 3 down. Still 1 all at the top of the 3rd, two Dodgers were struck out by Morningtons Starting pitcher who was throwing hard. A two out single to RF by Lachy gave the dodgers some spirit. Bottom of the third saw Mornington come firing with 4 runs scored. Dodgers couldnt come back and the final score was 9-1. Some great plays to save home runs by first gamer Liam Madden who just turned 8 and Jerry Liberati in left field. Great game Lachlan Beasley, Well caught and pitched Brad Kmet, well caught Ryan Kirby. Well done Steve Hughes.
