Round 5.

A1 - Berwick 0 lost to Frankston 7.

Although the game was played in very wet cold and windy conditions the standard of baseball was very high, the dodgers had several chances throughout the game to score some runs and take control but were unable to trouble the scorers. Glen Richards on the mound threw a fantastic game and was well supported by some solid defence keeping the Tomatoes scoreless until the 8 th innings unfortunately they managed to score a couple in the 8th although the final score did not reflect the closeness of the contest

A2 - Berwick 7 lost to Frankston.

The Dodgers got of to a great start scoring runs early and seemed to answer every challenge but as the game wore on, the experience of the Tomatoes  got them over the line in a tight contest

A3 - Berwick 8 lost to Frankston 13.

Under cold and wintery conditions for both teams, an early finish in the fifth inning giving frankston the win 13 - 8. Hits went to Tool, Kristol, Bull, Quinny and Little Bro'. After making 15 defensive changes, in 4 innings to get the right team balance, we slowly started to get back into the game, but came up short in the end when the conditions made it unsafe to play.

A4 - Berwick 13 def Frankston 5.

On a surprisingly good playing surface, but in cold and wet conditions, Brian “beefa” Lees strode to the newly rebuilt mound at Cyril Molyneaux to start proceedings. The Tomatoes opened with lead off back to back hits and converted them into 5 runs with 3 consecutive infield errors. After a lead off hit to catcher Steve Johnson, I thought that it was our turn, alas, we stranded him on third after he had stolen second, then third. Whilst we toiled hard to contain Frankston through 3 digs, We didn't fire up the scoreboard until the bottom of the 3 rd . A 1 out hit to Steve “bulldog” Price backed up by “willie” Carpenter. Brett “hitting machine” Antoine and Mick Whiting slammed on 5 runs. But that was where it started and ended. Frankston continued their solid hitting game to the end, behind the Golden arm of “Fireman” Floyd Selleck, the Tomatoes cruised to a convincing 13 / 5 victory

Under 16 - Berwick 3 lost to Cheltenham White 10.

A very unpleasant start, under drizzling rain, the boys started well from a first pitch double from lead-off Craig Barnett and with the aid of 2 pass balls scored in the 1st innings. Cheltenham also started well a out hit our boys to take the game 10 - 3. Sam Beasley pitched the whole game and is improving with every outing, batting well also with a couple of hits.

Under 14 - Berwick 9 def. Cheltenham White 2.

Lead off pitcher was Matthew Chilcott only giving up 1 hit in the first innings, striking out 2 batters and a throw from 3rd to 1st to keep them to 0 runs. In the 2nd inning starting well was Daniel Wood hitting a single to centerfield, next came Ethan Laurie with a huge 2 base hit to centerfield. Nice hits from Samuel Drane and Dean McCort scoring the RBI's. After giving up a couple of walks in the 2nd innings, Matthew Chilcott  fought back with some great pitching and great fielding from he team scored them 0 runs and leaving 2 on base. Daniel Durdin hitting a single to left field as well as Hayden Thomas, with the help of Cheltenham throwing a few wild throws scored us another 3 runs. In the 4th innings Jesse Gavin was our next pitcher with not letting Cheltenham scoring any runs. Berwick was hot with stealing bases and some great hitting again, won against the 2nd top team 9-2.  Putting us clearly in 1st place and playing great baseball.

No games next week.  Our next game is on the 31/05/08 v's Frankston at Frankston.
