It was an overcast, pleasant afternoon as we made the long trip to the home of the Braves.
With this list of unavailable players –
Bull – enforced leave of absence.
Paul Quinn – consultancy to the UN
Shaun Fahy – auditions in Hollywood
Ben Bartlett – educational opportunities at Fenway park
John O’Conner – fiscal responsibilities
Matt Chilcott - groupie activities in Hollywood.
It was a very different Dodger line up to take on the young inexperienced Boneo team.

A final score of 10-2 is reflective of the workmanlike performance with the bat. Great to see Darren (Earl) Jobling getting hits. Jesse Gavin was strong and controlled on the hill throughout his maximum 5 innings and again Crackers was reliable behind the dish. Toole again showed it’s like riding a bike, one at bat to get the feel back and then kapow, 3 more at bats for 3 hits. Nice Toole real nice. Thanks to Jeff Howe for making himself available to come in to replace the struggling manager.
Next week it’s the Rustlers at their patch.
See you on the diamond

A3 - Berwick 9 def. Dingley Blue 7.
Before I start my report, I would like to thank Leo Hemmes, who accepted to umpire the game after being asked at the last minute and being subjected to a less than friendly and highly competative game. On behalf of the team and myself, thank you very much Leo.
The boys took on an experienced Dingley Blue team this week, and after a contoversial first 3 innings, we came away with extremely hard fought and dogged win, especially from such a young team, winning 9-7. Sean Howe, again, showed his experience and maturity holding out the Dingley bats throwing the whole 9 innings, striking out 8 hitters and only allowing 4 earned runs. Up against good left handed pitching, we fought for every hit and capitised when runners got on base. We got 8 hits for the game, but more importantly, we scored runners when in scoring postion. Shae & Dick hit in 2 R.B.I's each and BB, Benny, Cam and Sean with 1 R.B.I each.
Keep up the good work boys as yesterdays game was a good test, under high pressure conditions, of how good this team actually is.

A4 - Berwick 6 lost to Dingley Blue 13.
This week in overcast conditions we hosted the boys from Dingley in what was shaping up as good contest looking at both teams recent form lines. With the threat of rain and the player unavailability reaching epic proportions , I signed up gun recruit Peter Gelsi to give us the starting 9. This proved to be a shrewd move as I will later reveal. Beefa got us off to a good start on the hill and we started hitting in the first. Mick Leem bruggen scored to get us underway with Beefa picking up the first of 3 hits and we were right in the game. As the innings past Dingley got hold of Beefa and a late arriving Sam O’Connor relieved. The damage had been done by then and we could not catch the fast finishing Dingley Blue. Final score Dingley Blue 13– Berwick 6. Glenn De Jong picked up 2 hits as did the superbat of Kristol Pyke, but the 2 run single from Gelsi was my highlight, Along with a solid outing at first from Bruce Cusack with terry Vann Iersel making a welcome return. Next week we host Cheltenham for more hi jinx.
Till then – see you on the diamond.

Womens - Berwick 5 drew with Melb Uni 5.
In a high quality game against the second placed Melbourne Uni, the team really came out to play. Shae started on the hill and had her curveball working a treat! Shazza has been really solid for us, and the fact that she can be utilised as a pitcher as well makes her all that more valuable to our team.
Some great work in the field from Jenna at left field, Jess at third base and a fantastic catch in right field to Sabrina Lees. And once again, Tay did the job behind the dish.
With the bats it was Jenna who sparked an early charge, hitting a huge triple to right field and scoring a couple of runs. Other good hits went to Shae, Tay, Sabrina and Jess.
What a great team effort – all 13 players took the field, and everyone did something to contribute. Not just a great game, but another enjoyable one for all involved. Though we didn’t come away with the points, we really played well and the game deserved to end in a draw.
Next week we take our boombox and footy over to Footscray for the final game of round 1. Sitting on top of the DBA Women’s Ladder, we’ll be looking to finish off the first round with another win. Let’s all hang around and have a beer with Big Kev and the Footscray girls after the game.
Good luck!!
Under 16 - Berwick 12 def. Carrum downs 1.
The boys took on an under-manned Carrum Downs this week and and won 12-1. Scott Simpson took to the mound for the first time this season and did very striking out 9 hitters in 4 innings. Craig B then came on for 1 innings and struck out 2 hitters. In the batting, Joel Miller had a great game with 4 hits and 3 R.B.I's. other hits went to Craig, Jesse, Scott and Woody, who also hit in 3 R.B.I's.
Under 14 - Berwick
Under 12 - Berwick 6 def. Dingley 5.
Well what an interesting game it was this week. We played Dingley at Dingley this week. And there were no safe hits from either team.
With being the away team we batted first with allot of patients at the plate, there was 6 walks out 9 batters. 4 runs being scored, and all from PB's (pass balls).
Liam Richardson was our first pitcher on the mound this week, he pitched for 2 innings, he got 5 strike outs from 12 batters. Great pitching this week only giving up 2 runs.
In our 2nd innings up to bat, Dingley shut us down pretty quick, only giving up 1 walk this innings..
Rydge Hogan was our relief pitcher, who also pitched 2 innings, also striking out 5 batters out of 10. Giving up 3 runs but 2 of those were unearned.
We then scored another 2 runs in the 3rd inning and 0 in the 4th.
There were a few hit this week but they were caught or thrown out, 2 by Rydge, 1 by Blake and 1 by Maddie.
It is a very long back net at Dingley which is where all the Pass Balls come from, which in the final result gave Berwick the win over Dingley 6 to 5.
Great catching this week from Liam (maddog) Madden and Jake March.
Our game next week is at home against Moorabbin. 9am start.
