Finally back at home and although in miserable conditions the Dodgers at last got back on the winners list with a solid win over the Bluejays to sneak back in to the four. After conceding an unearned run in the first the Dodgers started well with a lead off hit to Scott Wearne who was bunted over by JJ O'Conner and then scored on a two run home run to Glen Mascoll, the Dodgers were never headed again with evergreen starter Rob Hogan taking a no hitter into the ninth and JJ O'Conner closing out the game with the help of some solid defence. Best Hitters were Rob Hogan and Glen Mascoll with 2 and Scott Wearne and Matt Greene with 1
A2 - Berwick 10 def. Bonbeach 8.
After a great start to the game, the Dodgers took the foot off the pedal later in the game allowing the Bluejays a couple of easy runs to make the scoreline a little more respectable, however the Dodgers were never seriously threatened and at the half way mark of the year have moved up to 3rd on the ladder .Sean Howe threw well for 3 innings and the hard throwing Alex DaSilva closed it out. Best Hitters were John O'Conner, Sean Howe and Ben Bartlett
A3 - Berwick 13 lost to Bonbeach 20.
After a great start to the game, leading 13-0, the Bonbeach bats came alive and ended up taking the win scoring 20 runs to 13. The A3 home run derby came alive with Bull putting his fourth over with a wind assisted 3 RBI home run to left field and the next innings saw Little Bro' put one over right field fence into a 30mph head wind, should have deserved 2 RBI's. A very nervous, Bull, after Little Bro' put his first and possibly not his last over, was heard saying after being questioned about the pressure of Little Bro' catching up said "Care factor 0". Yeah right, Bull. Good hitting from Darren Hughes with 4 hits, Tooly & Gibbo Jnr with 2, Dick, Bull & Gibbo Snr (Sorry) with 1 each.
A4 - Berwick 16 def. Bonbeach 6.
In wet and bleak conditions we took to the diamond at Bonbeach with a good attitude and started proceedings with a 3 run 1 st innings. In what was to become a controlled offence with Willy Carpenter, Steve Johnson and Roy Huke keeping the runs ticking over we slowly put the game out of reach for Bonbeach. Our wet weather infielding was the best I have seen in years, ably backing up a stellar performance from Simone Wearne who controlled the Bonbeach hitters. Special mention to Michael Whiting for the new socks (at last) who had to sit after turning an ankle after a stand up 2 run double. New boys Steve Price and Marty Kmet added hits to the lineup when they came into the game as we cruised to a 16 – 6 victory. A good finish to the first half of the season and we stand in a position where we can challenge the top 3 if we maintain this form. Good luck to Simone who leaves this week to tour the US with an all star team.
